About Huruma's work
Huruma's work is guided by a sole principle: the women's personal feeling of compassion and responsibility for their neighbours and their community as a whole. The group's primary goal is to support poor families in Tella Mande. More specifically, it aims at providing the community's children with the opportunity to receive primary education and at supporting families with chronically ill parents (Aids, Cancer etc.) to manage their daily life.
According to these goals, and with the help of sponsors and local volunteers, Huruma
pays school fees, school uniforms and materials,
runs a small nursery school in Tella Mande and
provides families with chronically ill parents with food, medicine and assistance in their daily life.
Projects
Thanks to sponsors such as RFA (Tact-Aids Agent), the Executive Solution Ltd., TBL, the Kilimani Pharmacy, Machare Investments and TANAPA, Huruma has been able to pay school fees, school uniforms and books for over 50 children in the last few years. Thanks to Zara Tours the Huruma Women Group was able to apply for the registration as a CBO.
In 2008 Huruma has been able to continue the payment of school fees and school uniforms for 40 children. Furthermore the group currently supports around 20 Aids victims by visiting them, providing them with food and medicine and partly paying for treatment. Since July the Huruma women also run a nursery school in their neighbourhood for 40 children aged one to five years.
The Huruma Women Group intends to increase the number of children, young people and families receiving educational, social and health support. Furthermore it is trying to establish a school centre and a small office in Tella Mande. To realize these goals the group will try to win sponsors and to enforce the (local) voluntary support. |
