About Tella Mande

Tella Mande is a small village, situated approximately five kilometres outside of Moshi. Moshi is one of the well-known tourist areas in Tanzania as it is located close to Mountain Kilimanjaro and Tanzania 's famous wildlife game reserves, such as the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater.

Due to the distance to Moshi town, Tella Mande and its inhabitants hardly profit from tourism in the area. More than the people living in town, the men and women of Tella Mande have to struggle hard to manage and earn their daily living. While many men rush into town every day to try to earn a little money with daily jobs, the women work hard on the fields to grow and cultivate what their families need to survive.

More than the widespread lack of infrastructures, such as running water and electricity, Alcoholism, HIV/AIDS, unemployment and the lack of educational possibilities add to the seriousness of the people's living conditions. About 60 percent of Tella Mande's small population is living in poverty. However, as most of the non profit and charity organisations in the area are located in Moshi town, lots of Tella Mande's needy people have no possibility to profit from their support.
